ZOTOV Nikita Moiseevich (c. 1644-1717), count (1710), statesman, secret councillor (1711). In 1677-80 he was Tsar Peter the Great's teacher and tutor. Participated in the Azov Campaign (1695-96), as well as the suppression of the rebellion of the Tsar's Praetorian Guard (1698) and the investigation of its participants. From 1701, he was the head of the so-called Near Collegium, the main regulatory state authority under Peter the Great, served as its General President from 1710. Close associate and personal friend of Peter the Great, a drunkard, an amateur inventor of various entertainment objects, and the head of the Mad Omni-Clowning and Omni-Inebriating Conference. In 1702-03, he supervised the fortification of Schlisselburg and the construction of one of the Peter and Paul Fortress bastions (the Zotov Bastion). In the 1710s, he was the main organizer and manager of all the entertainment and public meetings in St. Petersburg.
