Panteleev Alexander Petrovich (1874-1948), film director

PANTELEEV Alexander Petrovich (1874-1948, Leningrad), film director, the Hero of Labour (1923). He studied in the Petersburg Technology Institute and took drama classes at the Theatre School (graduated in 1896). In 1896-1923, he played in the Alexandrinsky Theatre. He came to the film industry in 1915. In 1915-17, he worked as director of the film factory Rossiyskoye Kinodelo and produced about 30 films. In 1918, together with D. Pashkovsky and Anatoly Dolinov, he produced the first propaganda film Integration after Lunacharsky's screenplay. In 1919-21, he taught at the Institute of Screen Art. From 1921, he worked as director of Sevzapkino. His films include The Wonderworker, Endless Grief (both 1922), and Executioners (1925). In 1930s he produced science and education films.
