ERMOLAEVA Vera Mikhailovna (1893-1937), painter, graphic artist and book illustrator. She studied at the painting school of Mikhail Bernstein (1911-14) and the Archeology Institute (1914-17). She developed the principles of cubism, suprematism and other modern trends. In 1917, she took an active position in the leftist block of the Union of Artist Workers. Ermolaeva was among initiators of the unique collection of the city's signboards in the City Museum. She worked under Kazimir Malevich's guidance in Vitebsk (1919-22), in the Institute of Artistic Culture (1923-26) and the Art History Institute (1927-28) in Leningrad. She was elected member and secretary of the society Founders of New Art (1920-22). She established the association of artists Segodnya (1918) to publish popular prints and children's picture books. From 1923, she illustrated children's journals Vorobey, Novy Robinzon, Chizh and Ezh, and Detgiz publishing house books (books by OBERIU poets: Daniil Kharms, Nikolay Zabolotsky, Alexander Vvedensky, et al). In 1934, she was arrested and convicted for 3 years; in 1937, she was executed by shooting. She lived at 4 Baskov Lane (1914-1917), 13 the Tenth Line of Vasilievsky Island.
