Rukhin Evgeny Lvovich (1943-1976), artist

RUKHIN Evgeny Lvovich (1943-1976, Leningrad), artist. He studied at the geological department of the Leningrad State University (1961-66). In 1964-65 visited lectures at the Leningrad Mukhina Highest Artistic and Industrial School. From the late 1960s, he created abstract collage paintings and experimented with texture using pieces of fabric, parts of antique furniture and other items. He created a series of paintings with icon imprints. As a leader of an independent artistic movement, he organized exhibitions of nonconformist art, including the "bulldozer" exhibition in Moscow (1974) and "Gazanev" exhibitions in Leningrad (1974, 1975; see the Gazanev Culture). He died in a fire and is buried at the cemetery "In Commemoration of the Victims of January 9".
