PAKULIN Vyacheslav Vladimirovich (1900-1951, Leningrad), painter, graphic artist, theatre artist. He studied at the Central School of Technical Drawing (1916-18, 1920-22) under V.N. Solovyev, V.B. Guretsky, and I.S. Shkolnik and in the Academy of Arts (1922-25) under Alexey Karev and Alexander Savinov. His early works were influenced by the ideas of Petrov-Vodkin and the principles of Old Russian painting. In the 1930s, he turned from formal and theoretical creative research to direct perception of natural forms. He chaired the society Artists' Circle (1926-32). From 1922, he worked as designer of the Decorative Institute. In 1932 he was elected a member of the Leningrad Department of the Artists' Union and worked in its experimental lithographic workshop. During the Great Patriotic War of 1941-45 he created a series of gouache paintings dedicated to the city's life during the blockade. Pakulin lived on 15 Liteiny Avenue. He was buried in the Bolsheokhtinskoe Cemetery.
