TOZELLI Angelo (? - 1826 or 1827), architect and painter. An emigrant from Italy, he came to St. Petersburg in 1816. While here, he worked as a scene painter for the Imperial Theatres. He was the painter of the unique St. Petersburg Panorama, which was painted in water-colour and gouache, measuring 0.51 х 6.56 metres and painted in 1817-20, reposited in the State Hermitage. It represents the view from the tower of Kunstcammer. This Panorama is impressive by the documentary accuracy with which it rendered the city ensemble that had taken a definite shape by that time. His lithographic drawing The View of Kazan Cathedral from Nevsky Prospect was included into the album Views of St. Petersburg and Its Environs (published by the Society for the Encouragement of the Arts, 1821).
