OSTROUMOVA-LEBEDEVA Anna Petrovna (1871, St. Petersburg - 1955, Leningrad) graphic artist, aquarellist, people's artist of the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic (1946), full member of the Academy of Arts of the USSR (1949). She married S. V. Lebedev in 1905. Studied at the Academy of Arts in 1892-1900, under V. V. Mate and I. E. Repin. She was a member of World of Art from 1899. She taught at the Highest Institute of Photography and Photo Science from 1918 to 1922) and at the Academy of Arts from 1934 to 1935. She started the rebirth of the Russian easel wood-engraving, especially colour wood engraving. She enriched the art of engraving with original technical methods. The landscapes of St. Petersburg and its outskirts, the main theme of her creativity, are marked by a poetic, expressive composition and rare laconicism in their expression. Her famous works include the series of engravings of Petersburg from 1908 to 1911, Pavlovsk, 1922-23, the lithographic album Petersburg of 1922, a graphic series for the book Petersburg by V. Y. Kurbatov, produced in 1912 and for the book Soul of Petersburg by N. P. Antsiferov in 1920. She also painted using water-colour, and among her works are The Field of Mars, executed in 1922, and can be viewed in the State Tretyakov Gallery, Engineers' Castle with Hoar-Frost, 1929, displayed in the State Russian Museum, among others. She continued to work in the city during the siege of Leningrad. She lived at 21 Alexandrovsky Avenue (today Dobrolyubova Avenue) from 1906 to 1913, at 46 Third Line of Vasilievsky Island, from 1913 to 1917, at 6 Nizhegorodskaya Street from 1949, Akademika Lebedeva Street from 1917 to 1924 and on 10 Nizhegorodskaya Street from 1924 to 1955. She was buried in the Necropolis for Masters of Arts.
