GALAKTIONOV Stepan Filippovich (1779, St. Petersburg - 1854), graphic artist. He studied under M. M. Ivanov and S. F. Shchedrin in the Academy of Arts in 1785-1800 and taught engraving in 1817-54. A professor of the Academy of Arts from 1831. In his works, he combined engraving and etching techniques. He was one of the first artists in Russia to master lithography. He created numerous views of St. Petersburg characterised by accuracy of representation and skilful reproduction of the outside environment, including twelve lithographs based on his own drawings and Shchedrin's pictures, which were included in the Collection of Views of St. Petersburg and its Environs, albums published by the Society for the Encouragement of the Arts in 1821-26. He also painted illustrations for Ivan Krylov's fables in 1815 and 1825 and the first illustrations for Alexander Pushkin's Fountain of Bakhchisaray in 1827.
