ODOEVSKY'S SALON, literary and music salon held by V. F. Odoevsky in 1830-40s. Situated in his flats at 1 Moshkovy Lane in 1826-39, in the area of 37 Fontanka River Embankment in 1840-41, and 2/36 Liteiny Avenue in 1842-46. Odoevsky strove to bring together in his salon scientists, writers, and musicians regardless of their social status and aesthetic views, but he failed to "merge high society with the literati and scientists," as noted by D. V. Grigorovich. The salon was visited by V. A. Zhukovsky, I. A. Krylov, Prince P. A. Vyazemsky, Alexander Pushkin, Count V. A. Sollogub, M. Y. Lermontov, N. V. Gogol, V. G. Belinsky, F. List, H. Berlioz, and A. S. Dargomyzhsky. They performed M. I. Glinka's Life for the Tsar and Ruslan and Lyudmila. Odoevsky's receptions gradually lost their status in the second half of 1840s.
