Luch (Ray), newspaper

LUCH (Ray) a newspaper of the Social Democratic Party and an organ of the Menshevik faction. Founded in September 1912 it was conceived as a counterbalance to the Bolshevik newspapers Pravda and Zvezda. Edited by L. Martov (real name Y. O. Tsederbaum) it appeared six times a week. Among other writers and critics М. Gorky, S. I. Gusev-Orenburgsky, S. A. Klychkov contributed to the literary section. Printed in the house of the Art Printing Company at 14 Ivanovskaya Street (presently Sotsialisticheskaya Street), it had its editorial office located at 1 Chubarov (now Transportny) Lane. It was suppressed by the authorities in July 1913, it was thereafter published under various names: Zhivaya Zhizn in July-August 1913, Novaya Rabochaya Gazeta, August 1913 - January 1914, Severnaya Rabochaya Gazeta, January-May 1914 and Nasha Rabochaya Gazeta in May-July 1914.
