EPOKHA (The Epoch), a monthly literary and political journal, published in 1864-65 in place of the suppressed Vremya. The editorial office was located at 1 and 7 Meshchanskaya Street (today Kaznacheyskaya Street). After the death of its publisher and editor M. M. Dostoevsky (beginning with issue No 6 for 1864) - M. M. Dostoevsky's family, Fedor Mikhaylovich Dostoevsky became its de facto editor with A. U. Poretsky acting as official editor. N. N. Strakhov was the journal's leading publicist, while the staff body was comprised of D. V. Averkiev, А. А. Grigoryev, V. V. Krestovsky, N. S. Leskov, А. N. Maykov, Y. P. Polonsky. Fedor Mikhaylovich Dostoevsky published in Ekho his Notes from Underground and other works. Much within the ideological framework of Neo-Slavophilism (so called pochvennichestvo, or return to the soil movement) the journal engaged in a polemic with the journalists of the Sovremennik, and Russkoe Slovo. Despite contributions from prominent writers Epokha had little success whatsoever, and the publication was terminated on the second issue for 1865.
