TROLLEYBUS DEPOTS, enterprises providing special facilities and equipment for parking, maintenance and repair services of trolleybuses. The first trolleybuses were accommodated in the depot of Smirnov Tram Depot (3 Degtyarny Lane) since 1936. The first trolleybus depot was established in 1946 (15 Syzranskaya Street). By 1981 there were five trolleybus depots in Leningrad; No.1 (12 and 15 Syzranskaya Street), No.2 (27 Arsenalnaya Street), No.3 (7 Sedova Street), No.4 (140/2 Leninsky Avenue, the largest in Leningrad), a Combined Tram and Trolleybus Depot (opened in 1981; 131 Grazhdansky Avenue) home base for 178 tramway cars and 150 trolleybuses; No.6 (12 Aerodromnaya Street). The rated capacity of all the depots comes to nearly 1,200 cars. Since 1981, there were no new trolleybus depots built. By 2003 all the depots were subordinated to Gorelektrotrans; nearly 75% of the trolleybus fleet were past their operational life by 2003, about 15% of the cars have from six to ten years of their service life left.
