Station Police Officer

Categories / City Administration/Police, Prisons

STATION POLICE OFFICER, a police rank. It was established in the course of the city police reform of 1866-67. Police blocks were renamed police stations; a block supervisor became a station police officer; and administrations of blocks became administrations of station police officers (to whom the duties of police officers of the executive police were transferred). Upon the creation of City administration (1875), in addition to keeping order, checking police posts and other duties, station police officers were authorized to perform searches of persons and property, issue residence permits, and perform other duties.
