BABUSHKIN Ivan Vasilievich (1873-1906), a revolutionary worker. He lived in St. Petersburg from 1883, working as a chore boy at a mixed shop, an apprentice at a torpedo workshop in Kronstadt Port (today, 2 Makarovskaya Street - a commemorative plaque) from 1887, and a fitter at Semyannikovsky Plant from 1891 and Alexandrovsky Plant from 1895. A participant in social-democratic circles, including Vladimir Lenin's circle, from 1893, he became a member of the Central Workers' Group of the Union of Struggle for Liberation of the Working Class in St. Petersburg in 1895. He was arrested on January 5, 1896 and exiled to Ekaterinoslav in February 1897. Back in St. Petersburg from January 1900, he was a travelling salesman of Iskra in the Central Industrial District. He emigrated in 1902. When in London, he wrote his reminiscences of the revolutionary activities in St. Petersburg and Ekaterinoslav, which were published in 1925. He then returned to St. Petersburg in November 1902 where he was arrested in January 1903 and exiled to Eastern Siberia for 5 years. He was a leader of an armed rebellion in Chita in the late 1905. Arrested with a load of weapons with him, he was shot as an unidentified person. Babushkin's name was given to a park in the 1920s and a new highway parallel to Obukhovskoy Oborony Avenue in 1926-75, which was called Babushkina Street and included Priamurskaya Street, Olginskaya Street, Zavodskaya Street, Novo-Mekhanicheskaya Street, Kladbischenskaya Street, Preobrazhenskaya Road, and Polevoy Lane. A bust of Babushkin by sculptor A.M. Ignatyev was put at 23 Novo-Alexandrovskaya Street in 1974.
