BRUSNEV'S GROUP (Central Working Committee, Working Union), one of the first social-democratic organizations in Russia. It was founded in 1889 under the guidance of student M. I. Brusnev. Members of Brusnev's Group organized over 20 workers' circles at St. Petersburg enterprises with the Central circle at the head from 1889. In 1890-91, they took part in preparing and holding walk-outs of Novoadmiralteysky Plant and Thornton Factory workers, distributed leaflets, and were one of the groups to organize the political demonstration during the funeral of publicist N.V. Shelgunov. In 1891 and 1892, they held the first May-day meetings in Russia. Brusnev's group was dissolved after mass arrests were conducted in 1892-93.
