GUARDS ARTILLERY, general name for artillery units and formations, consisting of the Guards. The Life Guards of the 1st, 2nd and Horse Artillery Brigades (each of which including 6 batteries with 6-8 pieces in each one), as well as spare and maintenance parts were permanently stationed in St. Petersburg. In 1914 the reserve sub-divisions of the Life Guards 3rd Artillery Brigade, quartered in Warsaw, were also transferred to Petrograd. The barracks of the 1st Guards Artillery Brigade were located at 1 and 26 Liteiny Avenue, in Spasskaya (now Ryleeva) Street, 14 Baskov Lane; the 2nd Brigade - at 2b and 9 Izmaylovsky Avenue, 2 Troitsky Avenue; the Horse Artillery Brigade – at 22 Shpalernaya Street, 2 Liteiny Avenue, 10-12 Vilensky Lane and in Pavlovsk. After October 1917 units and formations of the Guards artillery were disbanded.
