KONSTANTIN KONSTANTINOVICH (1858, Strelna - 1915, Pavlovsk), Grand Prince, Infantry General (1907), Adjutant General (1901), honorary member of the St. Petersburg Academy of Sciences (1900). Son of Grand Prince Konstantin Nikolaevich. From 1882 served in the Izmaylovsky Life Guards Regiment, where he established a Literary Club Izmaylovsky Leisure Time. From 1889, president of the St. Petersburg Academy of Sciences. In 1891-1900 Commander of the Preobrazhensky Life Guards Regiment. In 1900-10 Chief Commander, from 1910 - Inspector General of military academic establishments; implemented the concept of humanistic military education. In 1882 made his debute as a poet (under the pseudonym "К.R."), published a number of collections of poems (poetry collections), and thereafter engaged himself as a translator and literary critic. The Hermitage theatre staged amateur plays Hamlet in his translation and a drama, written by him The King of Judea" (banned by the Synod for public staging), where he played several main parts. About 70 works of Konstantin Konstantinovich were set to music. He was one of the initiators of setting up the Orthodox Palestine Society (1882, co-chairman from 1905), headed the Society of Friends of Natural Science, Anthropology and Ethnography, promoted the establishment of the Pushkin House in St. Petersburg. At the beginning of WW I happened to be in Germany, was interned, whereupon deported homewards. Was the owner of the Marble Palace and Pavlovsk. Buried in the Grand Princes Burial Vault.
