THE DECORATIONS OF LENINGRAD, orders conferred upon the city as a token in recognition of its services and achievements. Awards received by Leningrad include the Order of the Red Banner (awarded on 5 December 1919, for defence against the White Army), the Order of Lenin (on 26 January 1945, for defence against German troops); the Order of Lenin (on 21 July 1957, in honour of the 250th anniversary of the city's foundation); the title of Hero City and the Red Star medal (awarded on 8 May 1965; in commemoration of the 20th anniversary of victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-45); and the Order of the October Revolution (on 4 November 1967, in honour of the 50th anniversary of the October 1917 Revolution).
