The second section was named Sampsonievskaya Embankment after the adjacent Bolshoy Sampsonievsky Avenue and St. Sampson's Church from 1887 and Fokina Embankment in honour of N. S. Fokin, the founder of a youth movement on Vyborgskaya Side in 1923-79. Buildings of the General Army Hospital and Navy Hospital were erected at number 3 from the early 18th century onwards.
