ARSENALNAYA EMBANKMENT on the right bank of the Neva River between Arsenalnaya Street and Akademika Lebedeva Street. It was so named in 1887 after Novy Arsenal Plant (today, Arsenal Joint-Stock Company situated in house 1). The embankment included the present-day Pirogovskaya Embankment until 1898. The depth of the Neva is up to 24 metres near the embankment. The bank was covered with granite by architects V. M. Ivanov, N. A. Moskvin, and Y. G. Shindin and engineer L. N. Sobolev in 1976-81. The embankment is unique in that it has two levels and is decorated with mortars. In the embankment there is the Regional Children's Clinical Hospital, Pretrial Detention Centre No. 1 in house 7 (see Kresty Prison), Kalininsky District Administration in house 13 built by architects N. V. Baranov, N. G. Ageeva, and G. I. Ivanov in 1955, and the former Mikhailovsky Artillery Academy in house 15 with the facade reconstructed by architects N. V. Baranov and M. E. Rusakov in 1950s.
