VESELNAYA STREET (Oar Street), between Bolshoy Avenue and Sredny Avenue of Vasilievsky Island, in the region of the Harbour. The road was built in the 1730s and named Eighth Line and Ninth Line in the early 19th century. In the 18th - early 19th centuries, workshops and storehouses where paddles for rowing boats were manufactured and stored (hence the name) were located on this site. Since the late 19th century, the street was mainly built up with stone houses. A number of residential houses were erected in the 1950s-60s. The Central Scientific Research Institute for Methods and Techniques of Mineral Prospecting is located in building 6. In building 10, museum worker L.N. Belova, geographer S.B. Lavrov and chess player V.L. Korchnoy lived.
