LENINA STREET, running between Sytninskaya Street and Levashovsky Avenue, on the Petrogradskaya Side. Known as Shirokaya Street until 1923. In 1956, it included the former Y. Kalinina Street (until 1923, Matveevskaya Street). The road was laid in the 1730s in the Koporsky Regiment settlement, and was renamed in memory of V.I. Lenin. In the late 19th - early 20th centuries, it was built up with apartment houses, including building no. 8 (1908-10, architects M.I. von Wilken, S.G. Ginger), building no. 32/66 (1907-08, architects A.L. Lishnevsky, P.P. Svetlitsky), and building no. 52 (1912-13, architect A.M. Erlich). In 1924-26, the Volkhov Hydroelectric Power Station was constructed (building 4-6, architects V.A. Shchuko, V.G. Gelfreich); and in 1956-58, the Union of Writers block of flats appeared (building 34, architect N.M. Nazarin). Prominent past residents of the street include S.L. Perovskaya (building no. 4); Soviet Party figure and statesman V.M. Molotov (building no. 24, 1917); writers L.I. Borisov, A.N. Chepurov, V.V. Konetsky, V.B. Azarov, V.S. Shefner, A.A. Akhmatova and others (building no. 34); and engineers M.T. Elizarov and A.I. Ulyanova-Elizarova (building no. 52). In 1917, V.I. Lenin, N.K. Krupskaya and M.I. Ulyanova stayed with Ulyanova-Elizarova's (see the Elizarov Memorial Apartment-Museum). In 1957, a bust to Lenin (sculptor V.I. Ingal) was erected in a public garden at the corner of Bolshoy Avenue of the Petrogradskaya Side and Lenina Street.
