KOLOKOLNAYA STREET, located between Vladimirsky Avenue and Marata Street. Constructed in the 1740s according to a project by the St. Petersburg Construction Commission. In the middle of the 18th century, the road was called Stolovaya Street, and in the 1770s - 1850s Basmannaya Street. Its modern name originates from the bell tower of the Church of Our Lady of Vladimir. In the late 19th - early 20th centuries, the street was built up with apartment houses , including building no. 5 (1878, architect N.F. Becker), building no. 8 (originally architect A.L. Lishnevsky's private house; 1914-16), building no. 11 (notable for the striking majolica decor of its facade; 1899-1900, architect N.N. Nikonov), building no. 13 (1851), building no. 14/14 (the former Prince N.D. Bagration-Mukhransky Residence; 1879, architect V.M. Nekora), and building no. 16 (the former Municipal Orphan's Home; 1874, military engineer Petrov). The editorial office of the journal Sovremennik was quartered in the house that stood on the site of building no. 14, where its editors, N.A. Nekrasov and I.I. Panaev, lived in the 1850s.
