KAVALERGARDSKAYA STREET, running from Suvorovsky Avenue to Tavrichesky Lane. Known as Krasnoy Konnitsy Street from 1923 to 1991. In the early 19th century, the corner of Shpalernaya Street and Kavalergardskaya Street was built up with the Cavalry Guard Regiment barracks (or the Kavalergardsky Regiment in Russian, hence the street name), where the Officers' Cavalry School was situated from 1875. The southern part of the street was built up in the early 20th century with apartment houses in the Art Nouveau style and in the Neoclassical style. House No. 3 (1909-10, architect I.I. Burgazliev) accommodated the Society of Householders, while house No. 12 was an apartment house belonging to the Department for Empress Maria's Establishments (1904-05, architect A.F. Krasovsky). House No. 42 was occupied by the I.F. Gromov Elementary School (1887-91, architect P.Y. Suzor). Most of the northern part of Kavalergardskaya Street was built up in the 1950s-70s.
