Pylyaev M.I. (1842-1899), expert of regional ethnography

PYLYAEV Mikhail Ivanovich (1842, St. Petersburg - 1899, the same city) writer and journalist. He received no systematic education, but attended lectures at Kharkov University and abroad. From 1861 he contributed to the journal Illyustratsiya, from 1876, he was a staff member of Vedomosti Peterburga, from 1879 worked at the newspaper Novoe Vremya. In the 1890s, he was published in Vedomosti Sankt-Peterburgskogo Gradonachalstva i Gorodskoy Politsii, the journals Istorichesky vestnik, Syn Otechestva, Zhivopisnoe obozrenie, Niva, among others. He was the author of the Forgotten Past of Petersburg Outskirts (1889), Old Petersburg (1889), The Old Way of Life (1892), Great Characters and Eccentrics (1898 etc., all were republished in the 1990s. He lived in the yard wing on 22 Fontanka Embankment (the commemorative plaque). He was buried on Mitrofanievskoe cemetery; in the 1930s, his remains were carried to Literatorskie Mostki.
