KONDRASHIN Vladimir Petrovich (1929, Leningrad, 1999, St. Petersburg), Merited Coach of the USSR (basketball). In 1967-95 head coach of Spartak team (Leningrad), in 1970-76 senior coach of the USSR national team. He was Olympic champion (1972), world champion (1974), European champion (1971), and champion of the World Student Games (1970), winner of the World Basketball Festival (1973), Nations' Cup (1974) and the Intercontinental Cup (1975), two-times winner of the European Cup Winners' Cup (1973, 1975), champion of the USSR (1975) and champion of the Commonwealth of Independent States (1992). He was the first coach in the world to win the game against the USA national team at the Munich Olympics (1972), the latter had not lost a single Olympic tournament match for 36 years. Kondrashin was Honorary citizen of St. Petersburg (1999). He was buried in Severnoe Cemetery, close to his tutee, A.A. Belov. There is a memorial plaque on the house where Kondrashin resided (1 Pushkinskaya Street).
