Ott D. O., (1855-1929), obstetrician, gynaecologist

OTT Dmitry Oskarovich (1855-1929, Leningrad), obstetrician, gynaecologist, Doctor of Medicine (1884), court medic (1895). Ott graduated from the Medical Surgical Academy in 1879. In 1893-1918 he was director of the Imperial Clinical Institute of Midwives (now the Institute of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, IOG), later was its lifelong honoured director. Ott is a founder of a scientific school. He initiated the construction of a new building for the institute at 3 Mendeleevskaya Line. In 1899-1905 Ott served as director of the Women’s Medical Institute and obtained equal rights for female doctors. A bronze monument to Ott was placed on the main staircase of the Institute of Obstetrics and Gynaecology (1924, sculptor V.A. Beklemishev). Ott was buried in the Novodevichye Cemetery.
