KOZLOV Peter Kuzmich (1863-1935, Peterhof), geographer, explorer of Central Asia and member of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic (1928). Graduated from the Infantry Military School in St. Petersburg in 1887. Then he took part in expeditions led by N.M. Przhevalsky and M.V. Pevtsov, and headed a number of expeditions himself to Mongolia and Tibet. He found and explored the dead city of Hara-Hoto in the Gobi desert. Buried at the Smolenskoe Lutheran Cemetery. From 1912 to 1935, Kozlov lived and worked at 6 Smolny Avenue (memorial plaque installed). In 2001, the Kozlov Memorial Flat Museum was established in the building by the St. Petersburg branch of the Institute of the History of Natural Science and Technology of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The museum exhibition features Kozlov's study, his expedition equipment, samples of geological, zoological and ethnographic collections, and works of art. The Museum also holds the scientist's archives and library. In 1964, his name was given to a street in Petrodvorets (Puteshestvennika Kozlova Street, former Progonnaya Street).
