GRAFTIO Heinrich Osipovich (1869-1949, Leningrad) was a scientist, electrical engineer, academician of Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1932). Graftio graduated from Novorossiisky University in Odessa (1892) and from St. Petersburg Institute of Railway Engineers (1896; 9 Moskovsky Avenue; commemorative plaque). He designed and built railroads, hydroelectric power stations, and participated in designing and building tram lines in St. Petersburg. In 1907 he was a lecturer and, from 1921, professor of St. Petersburg (Leningrad) Electrotechnical Institute (5/3 Professora Popova Street; commemorative plaque). Graftio was one of the authors of the Russian Electrification Plan. He was buried in Bolsheokhtinskoe cemetery. A street was named after Graftio in 1949 (former Permskaya Street, on Petrogradskaya Storona). There is a commemorative plaque on the house where Graftio lived in 1914-49 (today 15 Dobrolyubova Avenue).
