HOLY FACE CHURCH OF THE COURT STABLES, located at 1 Konyushennaya Square, an architectural monument. Originally built of wood, in 1737 it was relocated to a stone building of the Court Stables and placed above its main Gate; along with the building it was reconstructed in 1756-60 (icons of the new temple were painted by M. L. Kolokolnikov). In 1817-23 the church and the stables were rebuilt in the Empire style by architect V. P. Stasov. The facade is adorned with four columns of the Ionic order, the church has a flat cupola, the interior boasts columns of the Ionic order; the iconostasis was done by engraver P. Creitan; artists V. K. Shebuev, F. P. Brullo and A. E. Egorov painted the icons; sculptor V. I. Demut-Malinovsky created the bas-reliefs of the facade. On 1 February 1837 the burial service over A.S.Pushkin was read here (memorial plaque). In 1878 a chapel was arranged in the hallway of the first floor. In 1919 the church was closed down, in 1923 its building housed the Club of Mounted Police, then a department of Gidroproekt Research Institute. In 1990, the church was returned to the faithful. In 1991, divine services were resumed and in 1999 restoration works were completed.
