MELTZER Roman Fedorovich (Robert Friedrich) (1860, St. Petersburg - 1943), architect, artist, furniture designer. He was a descendant of a Russian-German family. From 1878, worked in his father's company F. Meltzer and Co. In 1888, graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts. In the middle of the 1880s, he worked with N.A. Gornostaev to design the wrought-iron front gates and ramp railing of the Winter Palace, later of the Palace garden railing (1900). By 1900, he completed the construction of the E.L. Nobel's apartment house on Lesnoy Avenue, subsequently, Nobel Mansion, living quarters, and production facilities of his factory. He enjoyed the rank of Architect of the Imperial Court (1903). Meltzer was a specialist in the field of interior design and decoration in Art Nouveau style (Imperial palaces of St. Petersburg, Tsarskoe Selo, Peterhof). Meltzer's works in St. Petersburg include: his own cottage on Kamenny Island (1901-04), the building of the Orthopaedic Institute in the Alexandrovsky Park (1902-06), mansions of V.S. Kochubey at 24 Furshtatskaya Street (1908-10) and V.E. Brandt at Bolshaya Dvoryanskaya Street, (pres. 4 Kuybysheva Street; 1909-10), palace of Grand Prince Mikhail Alexandrovich ( 54 Angliiskaya Embankment, 55 Galernaya Street; 1910-13), complex of campus buildings of the Bekhterev Institute of Psycho-neurology (3 Bekhtereva Street ; 1910-13, together with associate academy member V.M Bekhterev). Meltzer's last large-scale work project in Petrograd was the project of the architectural setting of the Dvortsovy Bridge (1915-16). In 1918, Meltzer emigrated to Germany, from 1921 lived in the USA.
