Hessen Alexander Ernestovich (1917, Petrograd - 2001, St. Petersburg), architect, restorer, one of the founders of the school of scientific architectural restoration in Leningrad. He graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts (1939). He dedicated many years to the restoration of Menshikov Palace (1956-74), of the museum The House of Peter I on Petrovskaya Embankment (1971-76), Peterhof buildings: Monplaisir (1959-66), Marli (1980-82), the Hermitage (1952-53), Voronikhin's Colonnades. The restoration of the Summer Palace of Peter the Great in the Summer Garden, the Marble Palace and the Grand Palace in Oranienbaum was being carried out with the participation of Hessen. He is buried at the Cemetery in Memory of the Victims of 9 January.
