KAZACHY (COSSACK) BRIDGE, over the Monastyrka River, on the right embankment of the Obvodnoy Canal (received its name from the neighbouring barracks of the Cossacks Life Guards Regiment). It was built in 1833 (engineer P.P. Bazen) as a wooden four-span nogging strut-supported bridge on rubble stone abutments and iron-cast column-shaped piers. In 1880 it was rebuilt into a wooden beam strut-supported bridge, in 1934 metal beams were laid. The present Kazachy Bridge was built in 1963-65 (engineer А.А. Sokolov, architect L.A. Noskov). The beam deck is made of prestressed reinforced concrete; the reinforced concrete piers are faced with granite, granite staircase slopes provide access to the lower tier of the embankment. Length 27.5 metres, width 27 metres.
