CHIZHIK-PYZHIK, a decorative composition on the abutment of First Inzhenerny (Engineers') Bridge spanning the Fontanka River; shaped as a tiny bronze bird resting on a granite console (architect V. B. Bukhaev). The author and creator of the model is Georgian painter and theatre figure R. Gabriadze; whose unveiling of the monument on 12 November 1994 was timed to the Golden Ostap humour festival. This character of city folklore ("Chizhik-Pyzhik, where have you been? I drank vodka on the Fontanka River") originates from the Law School located on Fontanka River Embankment. Its students wore black and yellow uniform, so they were nicknamed "chizhiks-pyzhiks" ("chizhik" is Russian for "siskin").
