Integrated House-Building Factory

INTEGRATED HOUSE-BUILDING FACTORY (DSK), facilities ensuring mechanized construction of residential-houses and public buildings to standard designs. The idea of DSK creation was promoted in Leningrad in 1958 (engineers S.M. Verizhnikov, V.Y. Isaev. A.A. Sizov, E.G. Strzhalkovsky, among others) and proliferated in the period of mass house-building in the 1960s-70s. In 1959, on the basis of concrete products plants four initial DSKs: Polyustrovsky, Obukhovsky, Avtovsky and Kuznetsovsky were constructed; in 1962 - Nevsky and Kolpinsky, in 1969 DSK-7 were built in Parnas industrial zone. Initially city DSKs produced exclusively five-storied blocks of flats of bearing-wall construction (1-335, 1-507, OD and others), construction features were not reflected in their exterior image. In the mid-1960s as a result of DSK redesign there was a certain diversity and improvement of the series' layout: 1LG-502, with panel mounting with a self-setting method; 1LG-606, with the ability to configure the plan; 1LG-600, composed of building apartments with vertical communications system and varying number of storeys (9, 12 and 15-storied). In the early 1970s the 137 series was launched, which enabled variation in the layouts of flats and buildings. DSKs creation allowed to shorten considerably the construction times and to deal with shortage in housing, but the poor quality of construction, limited their serviceable life and a monotony of Leningrad residential areas' image leaded to problems that became more acute towards the end of the 20th century.
