VLADIMIRSKY PALACE (26 Dvortsovaya Embankment/ 27 Millionnaya Street), architectural monument of eclecticism. It was built for Grand Prince Vladimir Alexandrovich in 1867-1872 (architect A.I. Rezanov with the participation of architects A.L. Gun, I.S. Kitner and V.A. Schreter). The main facade faces the Neva, it is designed in the spirit of the Florentine Renaissance, it is rusticated and plastered and details are made of portland-cement. The tambour of the gala entrance is decorated with sandstone from Bremen; it is decorated with gryphons, emblems and cast-iron lanterns. The complex of Vladimirsky Palace includes the main three-storied wing facing Dvortsovaya Embankment, three courtyard wings and a service wing on Millionnaya Street (about 360 rooms). Gala halls forming the single ensemble are however designed in different styles; The Reception and Gala living rooms are decorated in the Renaissance style, the Small dining room is designed in the "gothic spirit", double-tiered White hall is designed in rococo, the study - in the "Byzantine spirit", the Oak hall - in the "Russian spirit". A number of interiors are designed in the style of Loius XIV and in the Eastern style. The building was supplied with three elevators, stoves and radiators. In 1880-1893 the architect М.Е. Messmacher redecorated the gala (marble) and bronze staircases, double-tier library, the lowest dining room, kitchen and other rooms. At the beginning of the 20th century work in the palace was carried out by architects A. I.von Gogen and A.S. Pronin. In 1890-1892 Gogen reconstructed the Additional house of the palace (28 Dvortsovaya Embankment). In January 1920, the building housed the House of Scientists. Vladimirsky Palace keeps a rich collection of paintings, sculptures, works of decorative and applied art, creating a kind of a museum.
