ABAMELEK-LAZAREV (Abamelek-Lazarev) Semen Semenovich (1851-1916), prince, industrialist and landowner, archaeologist, Master of the Horse. Graduated from the Faculty of History and Philosophy of Petersburg University (1881). Inherited the Armenian industrialists Lazarevs' mining plant and possessions in Perm, his father's family estate in the Podolskaya Province (approximately 3,300 tithes), and the estate of his aunt A. Kh. Delyanova (approximately 4, 400 tithes). After marrying M.P. Demidova, Princess of San Donato, he became the owner of a considerable part of the manufacturers Demidovs' possessions in Perm (50,000 tithes). By 1913, he owned ironworks, coal mines, iron mines, salt-works, and gold and platinum fields throughout the Perm Province. He was a member of the charitable Special Committee for the Reinforcement of the Navy. He participated in archaeological excavations in Syria, and wrote two research books, Palmyra (1884) and Jerash (1897). Before 1910, he lived in the building of the Armenian Church at 40 Nevsky Prospect; then in his own mansion, taking up the present-day lots of 21-23 Moika River Embankment through to 22-24 Millionnaya Street (formerly F.A. Apraksin's house, 1730s, rebuilt in the 1770s and the 1830s; 21 Moika River Embankment, 1907-09, architect E.S. Vorotilov; 23 Moika River Embankment, 1913-15, architect I.A. Fomin, Neo-Classicism). He owned tenement houses at 11 Italyanskaya Street, 5 Borovaya Street, 17 Mokhovaya Street, 55 Nikolaevskaya (today Marata) Street, and 77 Sergievskaya (today Tchaikovskogo) Street.
