VOLODARSKY VILLAGE (until 1918 - Alexandrovsky village), an area 18 km south-west from the centre of St. Petersburg. Volkhonskoe Freeway joins it with Strelna and Pushkin, while Krasnoselskoe Freeway connects it with Krasnoe Selo. There is Volodarskaya Railway Platform (until 1918 St. Sergius Hermitage) on the line St. Petersburg - Lomonosov (the building of the railway station was constructed in 1857 by architect N.L. Benois). The locality is known since the first third of the 18th century, as Shungorova settlement; after Baltiiskaya Railway Line was constructed in 1857, it was turned into a holiday village. In 1918, it was named after revolutionary V. Volodarsky. In 1941-44, it was surrounded by German troops, who later occupied the village in the combat zone. Since 1973, it was included as an administrative part of Krasnoselsky District. There is Holy Trinity & St. Sergius Hermitage 1 km to the north of Volodarsky village. On the local cemetery, there are common graves of the Baltic Fleet sailors and civilians, perished during the Siege. In the architecture of the present-day Volodarsky village, separate houses and dachas predominate, with many of them built before 1917. Shungerovsky forest park is located to the west of Volodarsky village.
