Categories / City Topography/Green Areas/Gardens, Orchards

RUMYANTSEVSKY GARDEN (Solovievsky Garden) is located on Vasilievsky Island, on the right bank of the Bolshaya Neva, between the First and Second lines of Vasilievsky Island. The garden was laid out in 1865-67. It was designed by architect N. N. Kovrigin. The present-day area is 1.4 hectares. Rumyantsevsky Garden has regular-landscape planning. The garden was reconstructed at the end of the 20th century. Poplar, linden and elm prevail among the plantations. There is Rumyantsev Obelisk in the centre of the garden, hence the name. The garden adjoins the building of the Academy of Arts. The busts of artists I. E. Repin and V. I. Surikov were installed in the southern part of Rumyantsevsky Garden at the end of the 20th century.
