BEZYMYANNY ISLAND, large territory over 16 square kilometres in area situated in the centre of St. Petersburg between the Neva, Monastyrka River, Obvodny Canal, Fontanka River, and Ekaterinhofka River. The island formed after Obvodny Canal was laid in 1830s. It includes the Admiralteysky District and the Central District. It was divided into two islands by Vvedensky Canal until 1967.
