SREDNYAYA NEVKA, branch in the Neva river delta. It comes off the Bolshaya Nevka between Elagin Island and Kamenny Island, separating them from each other and from Krestovsky Island as well. It falls into the Neva Bay, conflowing with the Bolshaya Nevka near the Spit of Elagin Island. The Krestovka River flows into the Srednyaya Nevka from the left. The left side of the lower reaches of the river locates a number of small islands, Bychy Island and Bezymyanny Island. The river is 2.6 kilometres long, with the width varying from 100 metres to 230 metres, and the depth range measuring from 3.7 metres to 8.4 metres. The average flow rate in the head of the river is 144 m3 per second, while at the point where the Krestovka river flows into the Srednyaya Nevka it amounts to 188 m3 per second. The First Elagin Bridge and the Second Elagin Bridge span the Srednyaya Nevka River. The banks of the river, except some part of Krestovsky Island below the mouth of the Krestovka River, are natural soil banks, protected with wood and used as a recreation zone. The river is navigable. Grebnoy Canal runs off from the left side of the lower course of the river; a yacht-club is situated at the same place. The head of the Srednyaya Nevka accommodates Polovtsov's summer residence on Elagin Island and the Sportivnaya Hotel on Krestovsky Island, below the mouth of the Krestovka River.
