POKLONNAYA HILL, a hill to the north of St. Petersburg at the intersection of the present Engels, Toreza and Severny Avenues, at the southern extremity of the Pargolovo Hills. At approximately 40 meters it has a diameter of 550-600 meters, the slopes partly levelled down during the construction. Poklonnaya Hill is a prominent part of the eskerine ridge protruding towards Sosnovka and Piskarevka of a subglacial aquatic formation type with sandy-gravel deposits elevating over the upper terrace for 20-30 meters forming the steep western slope in the direction of Udelnaya. The western slopes accommodate gardens and resort zones, the eastern ones - residential sections. Poklonnogorskaya Street is named after the hill.
